Located in Arizona’s capital city, BBG Phoenix is led by Lydia Curry, fourth-year student at Arizona State University. This is the third chapter developing in the Valley, others including BBG ASU and BBG at Phoenix Conservatory of Music, a non-profit community music school.

BBG PHX debuted last week with their Launch Party, put on by Lydia, as well as Beats By Girlz Founder Erin Barra-Jean. Taking place at Fusion on First in the heart of Downtown Phoenix, this vibrant event brought together over 55 attendees. The night kicked off with some funky, upbeat mixes by DJ J-ME LEE, perfect to set the tone for the rest of the evening. Guests mingled, ate some delicious charcuterie, and had the opportunity to nominate their favorite Phoenix-based artists to perform at an upcoming showcase at Valley Bar.
About an hour into the event, people settled into their seats in the recording studio, for a live studio performance by artists Truvonne and Hyperbella. Erin gave a few words about how Beats By Girlz would benefit the Phoenix community, and a big thank you to Amazon for playing a crucial role in the creation of this new chapter.

The performance began with Truvonne, who invited the audience into a captivating musical atmosphere with Ableton live looping, pulsing drum beats, and ethereal vocals. The audience was located in several places, with some in the live room with the artists, and others in the control room with the engineer. From my seat in the control room, it was cool to feel so involved in the performance, and Truvonne did an incredible job of enticing the listener into that space.
The second set was performed by Hyperbella, a neo-soul duo. Comprised of Cassidy Hilgers and Carly Bates, the two had irresistible musical chemistry, and gave a phenomenal performance. The audience was beyond grateful to get a sneak peek into some of their unreleased music, off their upcoming record.

The event left attendees wanting more, and luckily there are a lot of exciting events coming up for the Phoenix chapter! In December, there will be a Dolby Atmos Mixing Workshop, which will open up for applications soon. In January of 2024, there will be an artist showcase at Valley Bar, filled with incredible, up-and-coming Phoenix talent. And finally, in February, there will be a three-day Writing & Production Camp. We are so excited to see where this chapter goes!
